Peer review

To ensure the quality of papers, PANORAMA ECONOMICO use peer review model in the manuscripts uploaded to the journal.

Peer review play an importan rol ensuring the integruty and quality of submissions. Peer review models process is a selection of two o more experts (also called examiner) to review/verify manuscripts submitted to research journals. These experts in all the process, unknown authors of the manuscript, comunication between authors and experts is made through editor. If this process could be thougt as slow, it is looking for ethical transparency, impartiality, avoid bias, responsability, quality and scientist rigour. In any moment experts known about the authors or vice versa.

Authors who has been benefit from editorial process  has a moral and ethical compromise with the peer review process. In addition, it is courteous, respond to an invitation to peer review even if cannot undertake the review.

In general, the process follows the next step:

  1. Editor check manuscript in order to see if journal guidelines are fulfilled, interesting or topics according to journal.
  2. After manuscript prereview, two experts from the journal in the manuscript topic are selected. This experts usually were beneficied from peer review previously.
  3. Manuscript are shared with the experts (manuscrit without authors information, ie, anonimous). Experts has a moral and ethical responsability in their review, however, in case that they can not undertake the review inform to the edit their reasons. If you are interesting in principal reasons check ethical code.
  4. Experts review the manuscript in an exhaustive way, looking for quality, integrity and real information. This review may conduct to a few situations:
    • Manuscript accepted. Experts after review, consider that, manuscript have quality and solid ideas for publication.
    • Suggestions are made. In this case, experts consider that manuscript have potential but correction and suggestions need to be made. In this step, experts made suggestions to the editor who send (in anonimous form) this suggestion to the autor. After modifications from author, manuscript is submitted another time to peer review with the same experts, also, in anonimous way.
    • Manuscript rejected. When experts consider that manuscript is not enought quality, suggestion are to big, inconsistent information o any other problem related to topics in the journal, the manuscript is rejected. In this case, comments about their manuscript reject are send to author (in anonimous text).

In all time, author has the decision about to resubmit their manuscript o send him to other journal.

In case one expert accept the manuscript and the other rejected, manuscript is send to a third expert who decided about manuscript situation.

Steps in the process review and aproximate duration 

  1. Editorial reception and initial review (1 to 4 weeks)
    • Editor and commtte editors check: 
      • Relation to journal topics
      • Guidelines (format, extension, citations)
      • Originality (checking similarity with Turnitin )
    • Possibles situations
      • Go to pre review
      • Rejected
  2. Selecting experts for peer review (1 to 3 weeks)
    • Editor and committee editorial do:
      • Looking for two or tree experts in the topic.
      • Invitation is send to experts, could be negative answers from experts for review.
  3. Peer review process (4 to 8 weeks)
    • Peer revier, authors and experts do not know each other.
  4. Intial editorial desition (1 to 3 weeks after reviews are made)
    • Editor or committee do: 
      • After review comments and suggestions from experts, editorial decision are made.
      • Separate points of view could be done so editor solve this.
  5. Revision round (if is required)
    • Minor case suggestions situation (author time: 2 to 4 weeks/ review: 2 to 3 weeks)
    • Major case suggestions situatation(author time: 4 to 8 weeks / review: 2 to 4 weeks)
    • Review round process:
      • Author solve each pointo to experts.
      • Manuscript could go back to experts or only to the editor.
  6. Aceptted (1 to 2 weeks)
    • Editor confirm paper aceptation.

Total time estimated

From submittion to aceptation: 3 to 8 months

Evaluation criteria

In PANORAMA ECONOMICO specialist review the next criteria:

  • Manuscript originality.
    • In PANORAMA ECONOMICO originality is considered as: manuscript free of similarity, economic reaseach contribution, novelty teorical and/or methodological.
  • Coherence and clear manuscript.
    • We consider coherence and clear manuscript as free from ortographical or gramatical errors.
  • Manuscript form.
  • Congruence and rigour theorical and methodological.
    • Objectiv, hypotesis and problems must be related and congruent. Results intrepretation must be clear and understandable.
  • Guidelines in submission.
  • References (actual, consistent, existent and other).
    • All cites must be referenced and vice versa following the apa 7th edition guidelines.
